Focus Group

Film Ecosystem

Filmmakers are a cornerstone of arts and culture in the Louisville area. In order to better understand the wants and needs of the film community a focus group for Louisville’s filmmakers was held on February 17th at FOKO, and was attended by over 25 local independent members of the film community.

Some of the challenges and needs we heard were:

  • workforce development, including training and apprenticeships

  • funding and resources

  • networking and attracting new talent

  • marketing and promotion

  • inspiration and vision; making Louisville film stand out

Ideas presented include:

  • create a list of low-cost spaces available for rent to film in

  • address labor issues

  • focus on local talent

  • develop a public rate sheet for film professionals

  • create opportunities for filmmakers to connect and collaborate

  • 502film could host a community film calendar

  • develop a niche for Louisville film

  • create a “Below the Line” Film Shorts Night to showcase local film shorts
